If you’re planning a wedding in 2020, chances are your plans are going to be affected by the Coronavirus (Covid 19). Besides the normal pressures of getting married, this adds a completely new layer to the already stressful topic: planning a wedding or elopement.

So what can you do?

Well, let’s talk about your options today to put you back in the driver’s seat of your wedding day.

  1. Read your contract. First and foremost, read through your contract to get clear about what your options are, what you signed, and how you’re protected. Then as you go through this write down your questions.

  2. Talk to your photographer (and other wedding vendors). After you have an idea about what to expect, actually talk to your vendors. I’d recommend on the phone or via FaceTime because a lot can get lost through email. Legal contracts are in place to protect both parties, but they’re not human. I’m personally more flexible than my contract and I know many other vendors are as well.

  3. Address your guests. They love you and they’re invested in you and want to celebrate with you. Be open about the precautions you’re taking as well as the concerns they have, especially if they’re traveling.

  4. Ask about back up plans. This is so important. What happens if you want to switch dates? Or if a vendor falls ill? Do they have a back up? Can you count on them? What happens next. These are conversations that matter and you deserve answers.

  5. Push past fear. There’s a lot of panic out there and if you’re not careful, you might be swept up in it. Things are changing rapidly right now and change can be scary, so anticipate change without reacting to the fear. My life coach, Jen Wille wrote this blog post about 3 ways to push past fear. Read it and then keep browsing on her site— good stuff!

Ultimately, getting married to your best friend in the world should be the happiest day of your life, and I’ll do whatever I can for my couples to make sure that’s true.
