For a long time I'd been feeling a tug in my heart to create images that matter. While I’ve been taking the time to go inward and learn more about my own privilege, I finally got the call to action to create more content and work that highlights diversity without performative measures.
We planned this shoot in September of 2020 during the height of the BLM movement and riots. Not only did we want to photograph a diverse couple, but we wanted to showcase a diverse vendor team in the wedding industry, especially for hair and makeup. While Sage ended up doing her own hair, we asked Angelica from Angelica Glo Beauty to be part of our team for make up.
The intention of the day was to create a unique and ethereal representation of the beauty of black femininity. And the striking contract of the couple's skin and the landscape made for a juxtaposition that couldn't have been better planned. See more in the Rocky Mountain Bride National issue here.
