An Intimate Indie Wedding in Estes Park, Colorado
At the Amptheater in Rocky Mountain National Park, Sam + Jack vowed before all their family and closest friends to love each other unconditionally. But before that, we all woke up at 4am to catch the sunrise with the most scenic views at Trail Ridge Road.
We were running a little late, Jack still wearing his eye mask to avoid seeing Sam, and I think we all anticipated missing the sunrise at the top so we all agreed to pull over on the side of the road to catch the warm morning sunlight if we needed to.
And yeah. We missed the sunrise, but the Universe blessed us with something way more unique and amazing…keep scrolling…
That’s right! That’s an ELK! This is how they got to experience their first look! What!?!?!?!
Okay, so after this amazing experience, we went straight up to Trail Ridge Road.
As we moved through the morning with excitement and grace, we head onto the ceremony.
But first, donuts.
Okay, back to the ceremony!
Besides being rockstar humans beings, as compassionate and adventurous as ever, Sam and Jack have an awesome love story. During their ceremony, Sam outlined a little bit of it in her vows. Here’s an excerpt:
“You and I met, at that time, what was considered an unconventional way to meet someone. Although swiping has become a lot more popular now, we were both very against it. In fact, one of our very first conversations was about creating a cover story. I knew in that, in that exchange, in that moment that I wanted to give you a try and explore this cover story idea with you. So I asked you out. Cleverly, I might add. With Darcy Schmidt’s pre-text approval, I said, “When are you going to ask me out so we can start working on this cover story? Do you remember?
Little did I know at that time that our cover story would turn into our authentic love story. An our story consists of so much. We have done so much in the little four years that we have been together. We have explored so much and grown so much. And I know that we will continue to grow and explore in our many years ahead.”
What I love so much about this day is that they made it fit everything they envisioned. Forget the “supposed-to’s” and the “should-haves,” Sam + Jack did it their way, and it was so refreshing. From the timeline schedule, the sunrise shoot and 8:30am ceremony, to the small details, like Sam’s ring box, the poems on each table, and the dried flower cake. Everything spoke about who they are.
Plus, they definitely wanted to enjoy their cocktail hour!
Sam + Jack, the welcome you’ve given me has left me speechless. The warmth the you both radiate lights up the lives of everyone you encounter, including me. Thank you for inviting me in to this sacred day. I love you both beyond measure!
